Latest news: With lots of planning going on behind the scenes, we are hoping for a bumper Show this year, held on the 17th August, in one of the best rural settings for a truly traditional Show! Parking is in an adjacent field just a few strides away, with a disabled parking area next to the main ring. Entry is £2 and free for children.
New for this year:
We hope to build on the success of previous years with some new and very local attractions. So we have the Brompton Regis Morris Men who will be strutting their stuff and whacking their sticks with vigour – at around 2.30pm. We are also planning a vintage/classic car class with a trophy for the winner. We will be welcoming the ever popular Secret Orchard Cider Company from nearby Nettlecombe, and the delicious Styles Ice Creams. We also have a Brompton Regis based working rural crafts display. For all dog enthusiasts we will have a special Dog Agility Demo followed by a ‘have-a-go’ class open to all – and we’re hoping for lots of thrills and quite a few spills!
Schedules and entry forms for classes in Flowers, Vegetables, Cookery, Handicrafts and Eggs can be downloaded from the links above. Entries close on Tuesday 13th August so there’s still plenty of time to get growing, cooking, trimming, lifting, creating and speaking nicely to your hens!
Something for all dog enthusiasts
The increasingly popular Dog Show will start at 12.30pm with lots of pedigree and fun dog classes for all. New this year will be a class for ‘Best Six Legs!’. Whilst it may be difficult to prepare for that one, the ‘Best Sausage Catcher’ and ‘Quickest Sit’ classes will certainly benefit from some pre-show training! Our Gundog and Fun-dog Scurry starts earlier at 10.30am. These scurry classes are great fun for the owners and dogs alike and first timers are always welcome. Entries for all our dog classes are taken on the day – so just turn up (and don’t forget to bring the dog).
Horse Show & Gymkhana
We have lots of classes for all equine enthusiasts – and all entries are taken on the day. Schedules are available here – just click on the schedule link above. They can also be picked up at various feed stores in the area, or contact the Show Secretary. And remember, our Fancy Dress class in the Horse Show area will this year be open to non-riders as well, and every entrant will win a rosette!
Lastly, a HUGE thank you to the landowners without whose kindness and co-operation the Show could not be held – for both the car parking field and the Show itself. We really do appreciate it.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Auction of Pledges
Secondly, could you pledge something for our Auction of Pledges stall? It may be you could offer a few hours’ housework or perhaps some car cleaning? How about offering to do a spot of gardening? Or you may have a special but unwanted gift that would raise some serious money for this important fundraiser. Whatever you can offer, it will be much appreciated and will be added to the Pledges board for bids to be taken during the Show. It’s never too early to plan ahead!
Remember, all contributions to the Show go towards generating much needed funds for local good causes.
Lastly, as always, do please get in touch if you would like to come and help us on the set up days – Thurs 15th and Fri 16th, on the day itself – Saturday 17th and/or on the Sunday morning when we clear the site – 18th August. We are always in need of extra pairs of hands!
