Another Record-Breaking Show

It seems appropriate that our 70th anniversary show broke our income record by an impressive margin.

A dedicated band of volunteers put on the gymkhana and dog show, others manned stalls or provided refreshments, drinks and other entertainment. We also had a record number of volunteers to put up tents on the Wednesday evening, which meant even more people to disagree on which pole went where and which way round the roofs fitted.

A wonderful day out was provided for all.

The number of visitors was down slightly on last year. We think this was due to light rain in the morning putting off those who had not already decided to come; and fewer people from outside the area, in keeping with a general decline in tourism across the region this year.

But this was more than made up for by record takings hitting £7,000. Last year, already a record and with more visitors, it was just under £6,000 – a tribute to all the hard work of those who marketed the show and manned the stalls.

Some of that money will be reinvested in the event, but a significant amount was awarded to these local community amenities and projects at the AGM on 18 November 2024:

  • Brompton Regis Village Shop – for electricity costs and website maintenance
  • Craft Club – for hall hire
  • Parish Church Council – for churchyard maintenance
  • Save the George – for membership fees
  • Wreath Making – for hall hire and materials
  • Village Green – for mower repairs and new goal post
  • Withiel Florey Church – for handrails outside the church

Next year we want to offer more fun and entertainment, as well as bring in more income and improve the way everything is run.

If you have suggestions, please contact at the Committee Chair, Charles Stewart-Smith or any other member of the organising committee. Any and all ideas are welcome.
