A perfect sunny day welcomed a record number of visitors – from both near and far – to this year’s show.

Those record numbers spent a record amount, with all stalls sowing a rise in takings. The Auction of Promises doubled the record set last year and the hard-working team in the refreshments tent, which kept us fed and watered all day, taking the most money.

The gun dog scurry’s new location led to more entries and higher takings. There were also record entries in the ridden showing classes this year, with a strong turnout for the in-hand Mountain and Moorland classes.

Youngsters were treated to something for all ages; from Jon Cox’s archery and the Tractor Show in the parking field, to the daunting Fieldhouse Challenge, a matrix of bring string like the lasers in Mission Impossible. The face painting, bouncy castle and range of new games in the children’s area provided endless entertainment for the youngest visitors.

This year our traditional stalls were supplemented by a variety of trade stands – three from charities and three from commercial enterprises selling dog treats, tack for horses and Neal’s Yard scents and other smelly treats. Pete Collins’ tent and woodworking lessons were a great local addition to the day.

Another first was to have Les Silverlock commentating us through the day and passing on updates about things to do. Les did a first class job, adding both information and atmosphere to the day. To have one local hero in Les was a feather in the show’s cap but he was rather upstaged by the real star of the show – the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle winner, Golden Ace. While she paraded around the ring, her trainer, Jeremy Scott introduced us to his winner and talked us through the day of the triumphant win.

The committee would like to thank Jeremy and everyone else who attended, worked hard to deliver and provided sponsorship to create what some were calling ‘the best show ever‘ soon after the final gavel came down on Edward Luxton’s Auction of Produce. It was certainly a day to remember!

This year’s show made more, invested more and paid out more in grant money than ever before. Grants totaling over £6,000 were awarded to these local community groups and amenities at the AGM on 18 November 2025:

  • Brompton Regis Bowls Club – for new equipment
  • Brompton Regis Paris Lifts – for annual insurance
  • Brompton Regis Village Shop – for a new fridge and website maintenance
  • Parish Church Council – for churchyard maintenance
  • Wreath Making – for hall hire and materials
  • Village Green – for mower repairs and running costs
  • Withiel Florey Church – for handrail and painting the church

The Committee also made a one-off donation of £250 to Jon Cox’s fundraising appeal for a bionic arm for his daughter.
