War Memorial and Commonwealth War Grave
Are you perhaps a descendant of one of the Brompton Regis Men who died in the Great War ? Or interested in the human history of that conflict and the lives of individuals who fought in it?
As part of our 2018 commemoration of the Centenary of the end of the war, one of our residents, Sarah Merchant, carried out extensive research and produced a chronicle of the origins, war service and death of the men recorded on the war memorial and that can be seen at the back of the church, behind the font.
You can also select the names below for a summary of each brief life and untimely death. Some of the details are very poignant and the places where they died are spread widely across Europe and the Middle East.
Brompton Regis is also host to a headstone installed and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. One of the men, Private Charles Blackmore, was buried here. It is assumed that he came home ill or wounded before his death in 1917.
