On Sunday 14 June, the village came together to celebrate 25 years since the completion of the Millennium Green, and to remind everyone of this little gem in the heart of our village.
The weather over that whole weekend was perfect for setting up the site on Saturday, and then celebrating with games and afternoon tea on the Sunday. The Green looked very festive with bunting and flower swags blowing in the breeze, and the Gytha’s pageant organised by the once Brompton Regis Morris men added a theatrical bit of fun.
It was good to see everyone relaxing with a drink, chatting and socialising, children playing games and running about, a proper village affair. Sam Cowling joined us for the celebration; as the youngest person in the parish 25 years ago, his name is mentioned on the standing stone on the Green, along with Grace Langdon, then the oldest person in the parish. The current oldest and youngest members of our community, Alan Wilson and Rupert Headley, helped to cut the cake on this occasion.
Although it wasn’t a fund-raising event, we still made nearly £500 which will be spent on the upkeep of the Green as well as mower petrol and maintenance.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this such a special occasion and those who came along, joined in and spent money.
